A Work Made Flesh: The Scenic Birth of The Pilgrim
On April 19th, 2025, as part of the Holy Week programming, The Pilgrim came to life in its first public act, a unique scenic format presented in the Church of the "Museo de la Ciudad" in Quito. This experience marked the official birth of the work, blending visual art, performance, theater, sound, and mysticism, something never before seen in the city.
The event opened with an original theater piece by Rezuma Teatro actors, which introduced the audience to the emotional and archetypal universe of the myth. This stage intervention served as a gateway into the Pilgrim’s journey, beautifully bringing to life some of the most iconic images from the pictorial work.
The performance was accompanied by a custom light and sound composition by Kaleidoscopic, which transformed the sacred architecture of the space into an immersive environment.
The interplay of visuals and sound enveloped the audience in a dreamlike atmosphere, rich in symbolism.
Following this, the artist led a guided mediation through the 22 original drawings of The Pilgrim, narrating the protagonist’s journey to the audience. The experience also included, for the first time, oracle readings offered by various tarot readers, inviting the public to engage with the work from their own inner world. This gave The Pilgrim a space of activation, contemplation, and collective connection.
The audience’s response was deep and emotional. A full house, attentive silence, tears, questions—an echo that still resonates. This event revealed the project’s expansive potential, opening the door to future explorations in new formats:
1. Projection mapping in heritage spaces
2. Theatrical works inspired by the story
3. Immersive installations for museums, festivals, or cultural centers
More than a presentation, it was a ritual act, a birth. A testament that The Pilgrim is a living work, one that is not only read or seen, but also collectively experienced. And without a doubt, this is the perfect format to bring the book and oracle into the world.
