The Pilgrim is a work developed by José Manosalvas Chiriboga since 2009. Its main structure combines illustrated narrative and visual art in a story, divided into 22 chapters, each illuminated by a graphite drawing. His work also expands into a symbolic oracle and finally an immersive theatrical performance.
Inspired by the works of Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, and the Tarot, this work is a personal myth, an intimate exploration by the author from a mystical point of view, on his two main obsessions: love and death. The structure of the story follows a Dantean journey, divided into Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, also drawing a parallel with the Tarot, respectively, from the path of the Fool card through the remaining 21 Major Arcana. It's a fairy tale for the inner child of an adult, a metaphor for the process of individuation.
